Can You Remember The Lyrics Week 1

A couple of weeks ago, my friend CJ from Southern Star Entertainment, told me about her new contest she was hoping to put together at the Cecil! I was thrilled because it sounded like a lot of fun! I was very happy to contribute one Mini Outdoor Pet Paw-trait session to the contest for the audience each week of the contest! Last night was the first round of the contest and it was fantastic & I had a blast!

It was an amazing time and fun was had by all!  In the pre-game warm up fun karaoke - I was stunned when one of the contestants belted out Evanescences Bring Me To Life - to perfection....a very difficult feat and I know only one other friend who can do so in all my years of attending Karaoke!

Contestants rolled the dice to see which numbered category they would be singing from......
I think my personal favorite categories of the night wound up being childrens songs & TV Theme Songs -
There is truly nothing like watching a grown man sing The Wheels On The Bus, a young lady trying to sing Oh Susannah (which shed never heard of lol) as well as the poor girl who got to sing the theme song from Welcome Back Carter & The Adams Family as well.

Congratulations to CHELSEA who won the First Outdoor Mini Pet Paw-trait Package from me!

Thank you so much to CJ for also mentioning about my Summer Project Fundraiser # 5 as well at the event!

Hopefully it will help to get more Rescue Pet Owners together to help raise money for local animal rescue groups this summer!  Without the support from local Rescue Groups, the community and businesses like Southern Star & Cecil Hotel spreading the word and most of all YOU the public, we cannot make this work!  If you would like to learn more about the summer project fundraisers - go HERE to my website!!  If you know anyone or would like to participate in any of these great projects please dont hesitate to give me a shout HERE!

Over all an amazingly fun time was had by all and I truly cannot wait to do it again next week all over again and to also give away another Outdoor Mini Pet Paw-trait Package!!!  Much thanks again to CJ from Southern Star Entertainment & Dawson from Cecil Hotel for an amazing time & contest & allowing me to be part of the fun!!! I hope to see many more familiar smiling faces down there next week to enjoy the fun!

Happy Belated Fathers Day!

Hey everyone, I know this blog post is a smidge behind schedule and I apologize!  Its been a crazy few days for sure!

This fathers day was a little bit harder for me and that is part of the reason for the delay.  My dad passed away in January 2010 of an inoperable pancreatic tumor.  Last years fathers day didn't hurt as bad because my nephew was born in the end of May making things a little happier of a note.  This year however, without the glee of a newborn nephew to balance out things, Fathers Day was a little bit bitter sweet for me this year.

My dad and I of course had many differences through the years; both of us made a lot of mistakes.  But, on Fathers Day it was hard not to simply treasure all of the good times shared and some of the wonderful things he did right, and taught me.  I cannot listen to all the sillier songs of rock without remembering him; Godzilla Ate Up Tuckwilla, The Gooeyduck Song, Boy Named Sue were just a few he loved to sing and chuckle to.  He taught me to always have a passion for learning more, and how to always be able to find out more information (back in the days before internet this took much more skill lol)  He taught me to enjoy things like radio plays and playing croquet.  Simple things were always the most fun.  Camping on Mount Rainer at Huckleberry Creek, or just taking a stroll along the North Jetty in Ocean Shores.  A few other simple things he taught me about was gardening, photography and a deep love and respect of nature and the ocean.  All these things he taught me about and I've since become very passionate about them too.  I know he once wished I would become the first lady on space station freedom, and even though Ive obviously not become that; I like to think hes smiling down at the thought of me becoming a photographer and sharing my unique view of the world with those around me.

Thankfully, I was also blessed in this world with not one dad, but two.  I also have a stepdad, Freddy whos been my dad for over 20 years now.  And he too has taught me quite a number of things as well that I am thankful for.

Freddy has also taught me a lot of things about patience and giving; about loving nature and giving back when you can.  I remember him having lunch with a cougar and having a buck (with full rack) come to his whistle.  I think he brought any creature he could home and told my mum to "fix it" (and my mother is not a vet either lol)    Hes taught me how to sit and enjoy the silence (which used to drive me absolutely crazy) and to follow your heart, believe in yourself and fight for what you want & believe in.  Thankfully I can still tell him thank you every fathers day, and every holiday, for all the wonderful things hes done through the years and still continues to do.  Every time I hear "He Didn't Have To Be" I think of him, because, its so true.

I'm adding a third and special note in here as well for my baby brother too who just became a dad last year right before fathers day (and his birthday).

My brother and I have always been fairly close even though we've spent a good chunk of our lives living far away from each other.  I always say hes my favorite brother or my baby brother just to irritate our mum because hes my ONLY brother.  Hes always been the more logical minded, more athletic one, although I think we were about even in the lets drive mom crazy department.  He just got his Masters Degree in Criminology last week and I couldn't be prouder.  I always know hes got my back, or will tell me how it really is, and offer constructive criticism whenever and whenever needed (even if its unsolicited lol).  And most importantly, I know he will be an amazing dad to my nephew, Adam, and if my brothers lucky; Adam wont drive him as crazy as he did our mum lol.

So theres my belated two cents on Fathers Day - I know its not totally photographically related, but its (was) Fathers Day so today its about my two dads, and my baby brother who became a dad last year; the three most important men in my life.  I love you all and thank you so very much for all the wonderful things you all do for me every day.

HAPPY FATHERS DAY! i LOVE YOU GUYS!

What a Busy & Spectacular Week!

Well, I have to admit, there is never a dull moment around these parts.  We have had some ...interesting... weather lately so I have collected quite a bit of some interesting sky photography as we have had some intriguing clouds as we crept towards, hit, and recovered from a Tornado Alert.

I even got a chance to take my girls for a walk in the new grass growing in our side garden too! They loved it!

Today I also went to my very first Lacrosse game with my friend Patti, whos son Cole was playing in a tournament. I must say I did learn a few things thats for sure, I had fun and even managed a few photos as well!  The team is currently undefeated all season! Way to go Predators!

I also celebrated having 150 fans on my facebook fan page! WOW! It was less than 2 weeks ago I hit just over 50 .... a few days after, I hit 70 and asked my fans if they thought we could make 100 in the few short days before the weekend.....not only did we make it but we've exceeded it! And I must say I do have some "paw-tacular" fans out there who keep my spirits high and keep me constantly inspired too!  So thank you to all my great fans out there! YOU ROCK!!!

I sent out emails to a bunch of groups on thursday & friday in regards to my Summer Projects and I'm happy to say one has said YES, a second was too far away from here, but gave me contact information for a group closer to Medicine Hat, and two are waiting to reply to me next week - so toes crossed they are positive replies so we can, together, make this summer memorable for so many great people & causes!!!!!  I cannot wait to get started!!!

And on a final note, I have to say congratulations to my friend Kathy Wills who drives TNT!  Kelly & I nominated her for the Inspirational Hatter - who gets featured each saturday in our local paper.  This week the feature was on Kathy!  You can see the article HERE.  Kathy inspires me not only because shes the ONLY female Monster Truck Driver in Canada, and is part of the ONLY husband & wife Monster Truck Team - its because she does that AND takes the time to inspire women everywhere her & TNT go - to help raise awareness & funds for Breast Cancer and to support all those women out there fighting to Crush their Cancer & their families as well! Kathy told me when I first met her that everyone always tells her how inspirational she is, but she cannot figure out why because what inspires HER is all the FIGHTERS out there battling Cancer and their families. What Kathy does means alot to me as my mum is now an 8 year THRIVER of Breast Cancer - so it hits very close to home for me. Thank you so much Kathy for all you do hon! You truly are amazing & inspirational!!XO's.

And lastly before I forget, one last tidbit!  If you are local be sure to go down to Cecil Hotel starting on June 23rd  for their Can YOU Remember the Lyrics Contest!!!  It will run for 5 weeks and the top prize is $500.00 cash!!  On top of that, each week there will be door prizes given away as well!  And I have one coupon each week that will be given away good for a free Mini Pet Paw-trait Outdoor Session!!!! So be sure to go on down and check it out and I hope to see you all there!!!

I hope everyone has a great weekend and remember to spoil all those wonderful dads out there tomorrow! I will be making an extra special blog post tomorrow dedicated to my 2 dads & my baby brother too whos son just turned 1 last month!  Take Care & Keep Safe Everyone!

Walk to Save Our Off Leash Areas

Recently the City of Medicine Hat decided that they wanted to eliminate 90% of the local off leash dog areas.  Needless to say, dog owners all through town were upset!  Where are all the puppies supposed to go to play and socialize?  So one local dog owner, took matters into his own hands.  Mike, from Mikes Meats, decided to put together a rally to show the city we NEED & WANT our off leash areas left alone.  What dog owners are asking for is a compromise.  Dog owners are aware that of course there are a few bad apples but should that mean wiping out all off leash areas?  No.  What Dog owners are asking for is a more reasonable solution & compromise.  More PROPER signage posted by the city to clearly mark where IS and IS NOT considered an off leash area.  More doggie bag dispensers for poop, and having the city have by-law actually patrol the areas as THEY SHOULD BE DOING TO BEGIN WITH!  As an animal lover, pet owner & pet photographer, I was down there showing my full support of this event.  Over 500 dogs & owners showed up to tell city hall this is unacceptable!  It was an amazing sight to behold!! There were dogs of every age, shape, size and breed out there mingling together having a great time walking with their owners who socialized together.  There was laughter as random hugs were given when leashes got tangled and many pit stops as pups had to use the facilities along the way.  Petland, Animal World, Mikes Meats & Steiners all donated fun prizes for the draw for dog owners! Those lucky pups who won the bag of bones from Mikes Meats, I know will be super happy for the rest of the year chewing on those huge bones!

Mike also suggested we have a dogs day! I think this is a fantastic idea!  When I lived in Edmonton, they had an event called Alberta Ave. goes to the dogs and it was amazing and I'd love to see a similar idea implemented here as well.  It was a great place for all local dog owners to visit together, watch agility dogs strut their stuff, local pet supply boutiques, groomers, therapy dogs, rescue society's and more showed up to have fun and celebrate Canine Love!  It actually goes right along with my Summer Project #5 so I really hope it gets implemented!

Over all it was an amazing experience and I am happy so many dog owners showed up to show their support! And I was thrilled to be a part of this event! Don't forget to head down to City Hall again tonight at 7pm to voice YOUR opinion on this VERY IMPORTANT matter for ALL dog owners in Medicine Hat.  Compromise is all that the dog owners are asking.  The city's "solution" to axe 90% of the areas due to a few rotten apples is rather brutal, extreme and unnecessary.  They don't remove bike paths because some bikers try to run pedestrians over all the time - and this is the same concept.  The dog owners would like the city to simply take a few small steps to ensure all of us can coexist in harmony and fairly.  These simple solutions that are a lot less extreme than City Councils obscene idea!  I hope everyone shows up tonight to keep our Off Leash Areas here in Medicine Hat!

Thank you so much to Mike for putting this together, all the sponsors who donated items for the draw and to all the dog owners for coming out and showing their support!  I have posted SOME of the crowd photos & a FEW of the photos from the walk on my Fan Page - and I will get more up as soon as I can! There were so many fantastic dogs out I cannot wait to share them all with you!

What A Great Weekend!

Well I think summer is finally here and I think it might finally be safe to say that too haha!  I got to head out on Friday night to do something I've not done for quite some time! I went out to the Cecil Hotel with my friend CJ who is a Karaoke Hostess to SING! Ive not gone to sing since I've moved down here from Grande Prairie, AB 2 years ago where I used to sing with my friend Heather. And I must say I had a great time and thank you so much CJ and to Dawson, the new owner of the Cecil for inviting me! They are having a great contest starting June 23 that will run for 5 weeks called Can YOU remember the Lyrics! Top Prize is $500.00 cash!  There will also be nightly draws for prizes - and I have donated prizes too so be sure to go on down and check it out!!!  Be sure to watch for photos from my great time at Karaoke on Friday night!!!

I also finally finished editing photos from Spectrum of one of the fabulous pups who came by the TNT & Sheer Insanity Booth to see the trucks, Harley!  He was a super cute pup and his momma had just adopted him not to long ago and was nice enough to let me take some shots of him.  Isn't he just too darn cute?

I will also be downtown today - the city is wanting to eliminate 90% of our local off leash areas for the pups to play in! So there is a big dog walk planned for 2pm and I hope to see everyone down there showing their support as well!  Our local pups need these play areas and I hope everyone will fight to keep them for them!

Don't forget as well I have a few casting calls out right now for my Summer Projects that you can check out on my website or here on my blog! Summer Project # 3 - Update - Anti Bullying/Suicide Awareness/It Gets Better

Much like the others, this is an open ended casting call.  To RSVP simply click on the link in the title above and it will take you to the Facebook Event Page or you can contact me HERE as well.  It is open until August 31, 2011 so that it enables me to be able to photograph as many people as possible around everyones summer schedule's.  I would love to get as big a range as possible in these photographs so that we can send a strong, loud and clear beacon of HOPE to those in these situations.  All models will get digital copies of the photographs that they are in.  This is a three folded project and all, I believe, are intertwined.  Anti Bullying, Suicide Prevention & It Gets Better Project.  All three of these affects so many of us on a daily basis too.  I was bullied as a child in school and recently my friends 14 yr old daughter was bullied so badly she did try to commit suicide.  Thankfully she survived.  A friend of mine in High School who committed suicide, succeeded and I know first hand that it is something you never really heal from.  And although the It Gets Better Project is aimed at LGBT people - I find its message of hope that things get better, despite the bullying and that suicide is not the answer - speaks volumes to everyone whose been bullied or thought about suicide for any reason. All models will receive digital copies of the photos that they are in, which will be put into a photo book that will be used to raise money for these important issues.

This casting call has a huge range and I hope as many people of all ages, help participate in this as possible!  Not only would I like all ages, but also those who are:  Teachers, Emergency Personnel, Business Owners, Politicians, Athletes, Media Personalities, Musicians etc. to show them that there is HOPE and that WE ARE HERE, WE LOVE THEM & That Suicide is NEVER the answer!  I would especially like to get some people who have been affected by bullying & suicide as well to help with this and help to prevent this from happening to others in the future.

There are again very simple qualifications to this shoot - 1) You must be local  2) if you are under 18 you must have a parent/guardian with you at the shoot & to sign the release forms

Summer Project # 4 - Update - Service Animals & CNIB

My summer project # 4 is of course, service animals and the visually impaired.  This casting call much like the others, is open ended until August 31, 2011, so that it will enable me to do a photo shoot with as many people as possible, and work around everyones summer fun schedule's the easiest.  All those who do the shoot will receive digital copies of their photographs & they will be entered into a photo book that will detail in one -  some amazing and hopefully also a variety of service animals and the amazing things they can do, as well as, in the second, a day in the life of those who are visually impaired (both those with and without service animals).

I send this casting call SOS out to all those who work with, train or have a service animal.  This includes:  K-9 Police, Airport Security Dogs, Therapy Dogs, Medical Assistance Dogs, Search & Rescue Dogs, Military Dogs etc.  I really would like to get as big of a range as possible!  The call is also, to those who are visually impaired as well.

Proceeds from the first book will go to help out local Service Animal Groups and the second will go to the CNIB.

The qualifications for this shoot is simple:  1) you must live locally  2)  You must either work with, train or have a service animal or/and be visually impaired and 3) if you are under 18 you must have a parent/guardian present for the shoot & sign the release forms.

This project is special to me as my dear friend Kelly is visually impaired and my cousin is blind as well.  He has been most of his life and is now working with his second service dog.  His first, Layla helped inspire him to create new laws in regards to Service Animals if they are harmed/attacked while working.  I know first hand the amazing things these wonderful animals can do and I'd like to help them raise some awareness about what they do & some funds as well, so more people who need them can receive one or in some cases, the aid of one in our hours of need.

Summer Project #5 Update - Animal Rescues

My summer project #5 - Part 1 - Is Animal Rescues Photo Book!  Again, this is an open call that will go until August 31, 2011.  This means of course I can work around any summer schedule's and work with as many of you as I can.  For this shoot I am sending an SOS out to all those here in the area who have Rescued their Pets from Shelters or Rescue Groups.  All owners will receive digital copies of the photos taken.  The photos will be put into a photo book that will help raise money for local rescue & shelter groups.  I would also like to add in this book as many stories as well of where your fur baby came from and how they've changed your life and vice versa if possible.  The qualifications for the shoot are simple:  1)  you must be local 2) Your pet must have come from an animal shelter or rescue group and be okay with being photographed  and 3) if you are under 18 you must have a parent or guardian be there and also sign the forms as well.  You can RSVP to this shoot if you are wanting to participate by clicking on the title above which will take you to the Facebook event page or you can simply email me HERE  Remember this is not just a one day shoot - I can do it anytime between now and August 31 2011 that works for you!

This project is extra special to me for a number of reasons.  One is that I have two rescued cats myself, and of course I LOOOOVE animals (one of the reasons I went into Pet Photography).  Another is that I love to help animals and rescue groups whenever I can.  In fact, if you are part of a local rescue group, be sure to email me as I do offer free photographs of animals needing to be adopted to help them find their furever homes.  I also am hoping to, very soon, start working with the incredible artisans from HeARTs Speak as well who all help out local animal rescue groups.

My Rescue Baby Poly-Ana who came from the Medicine Hat SPCA - she is a long haired polydactyl calico.

My Rescue Baby - Lisa-Lee who came from Safe Haven Animal Rescue Society in Edmonton. She is a short haired diluted calico. She was rescued from under an abandoned trailer with her kittens.

Summer Project # 6 - Update - Rheumatic Disease Awareness

My summer project #6 is Rheumatic Disease awareness project - part 1 - the photo shoot!  Many people have misconceptions of what a Rheumatic Disease is and what a day in the life is for those of us who live with these Chronic Auto Immune Diseases.  I am hoping that with some help from all of you, my fellow Rheumatic Disease Warriors out there, we can help change this!

I know first hand that these Chronic Auto Immune Diseases can strike anyone at any age.  I was 9 years old when I, myself, was diagnosed with Mixed Connective Tissue Disease (Sjogrens Syndrome, Vasculitis, Polymyositis, Raynauds Syndrome, Lupus & Rheumatoid Arthritis)  I have fought it my entire life as well as the numerous stigmatisms attached to the word "Arthritis" which is why this one is important to me.

I want to do an all ages photo shoot.  Showing all the faces young and old and everywhere in between - to help remind people that it is NOT just something that affects the elderly!  I would love to also put in other Warriors stories (for those who would feel okay with adding them as well.)  This is an all ages casting call and I will and can work around your summer schedule's.  The only qualifications are: 1) You must live locally  2) You must have a Rheumatic Disease and 3) If you are under 18 you must have a parent or guardian sign the release forms.  These photos will be put into a photo book that will be used to help raise awareness & funds from it will go to help the Arthritis Society.  You will receive digital copies of the photographs you are in.  You can RSVP to this shoot if you are wanting to participate by clicking on the title above which will take you to the facebook event page or you can simply email me HERE  Remember this is not just a one day shoot - I can do it anytime between now and August 31 2011 that works for you!

Summer Projects Updates & Thank Yous - June 09 2011

Well I am happy to say that despite my initial worries about doing these projects due to lack of interest when I first wrote about them both here and on my Facebook fan page - I have happily been proven wrong.  I posted the event links for the photo shoots that will be taking place - and everyone started just showing a TON of support!!! That support I assure you means the WORLD to me and tells me I'm definitely on the right track! I am literally in tears (happy ones) over all the love and support so far!

That said I will do a new post for each that has their updates and the links in regards to part one of these projects - The Photo Shoots!  And I also have added just why these projects mean so much to me as well.  If these get enough support, I will have no worries about being able to do the second part of these - the fundraising! So if you know anyone who might be willing to show some support or do so yourself, please show your support and contact me so I know the COMMUNITY is behind them!  Without the COMMUNITY'S support - it cannot succeed!  All the events do say Dates To Be Announced - I am willing to work with ANY and EVERYONE interested in taking part!  I am willing to work around schedule's to get these accomplished! I do not need or want to do everyone at the same time - I think doing these in smaller groups will be even more wonderful.  The dates are open from now til August 31, 2011 - just let me know whenever works for you!

Thank you so much for all of your love and support!!!!!

The Bike & The Babe Shoot

Well, I've seen a few others doing this so I thought I would give it a try! So let me know what you think!
Here are a few sneak peeks at my photo shoot "The Bike & The Babe".  Patti loves her Harley so we did a shoot of her and her Harley before she headed out on a sunny afternoon ride on it. If you would like to see more of this shoot - be sure to check out the website or my facebook fan page!

Animal Rescue Groups

If you are a non profit animal rescue/sanctuary/organization and would like/need photos done of the animals in your care so they can be adopted quickly, please be sure to contact me! I will happily come out and take photos of the animals and give you a CD with the digital copies on it & print rights to them so that these great animals can find their fur-ever homes ASAP. I can even post the photos and their information on my F.B. Studio fan page to help find these babies loving homes if you would like.

I have 2 feline rescues as many of you know already, My Sweet Lisa-Lee & Lil Miss Poly-Ana; two great joys in my life that I cannot imagine my world without, and without them I'd not be here as a photographer. I would be thrilled to help your furry friends find their fur-ever homes! So please be sure to contact me HERE if you are an animal rescue/sanctuary that would like to have some photos taken.
